How refreshing to see a really good dark comedy! I just saw Pain & Gain. Not knowing what to expect, I was open for a rough and tough ride through the streets of a gangster type neighborhood with lots of crime and lots of action. Instead, I saw a really dark comedy and a true story (not based on a true story, but a real true story).
There were parts that had me laughing so hard, I missed some dialogue from the next scene. What a cast ! Usually, when there are a lot of stars in a movie, it sucks. Surprisingly, this movie was really good and very entertaining. I don’t understand the “so-so” rating and I definitely disagree with the critics and the fans. Mark Wahlberg out did himself, as did the rest of the cast. The acting, the deliverance of their lines and direction was phenomenal.
Do yourself a favor and see this one. You won’t be disappointed unless you don’t like dark comedies. It was tastefully done.
Great review Carol. It suffers from characters who are too goofy to take seriously and the fact that Bay is trying to get us to root for the douche bag murderers. I didn’t hate it for this fact, but it was strange.
