THE 100 YEAR-OLD MAN WHO CLIMBED OUT THE WINDOW AND DISAPPEARED (2015) – My rating: 8.7/10

100YrOldManWhoJumpedOutWindowWhat a great movie.  The 100 Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out The Window and Disappeared (100 YOM) is not what you might think it’s about.  First off, it’s a comedy, a very good comedy.  (100 YOM) is a Swedish film, narrated in English by the star actor who plays Robert Gustafsson (Allan Karlsson).  The rest of the film is in various other languages.  On Robert’s 100th birthday, he finds himself in a nursing home.  The staff is busily preparing a cake, complete with 100 candles, to celebrate this mile-stone birthday in Robert’s life but when they get to his room, he’s nowhere to be found.  Having climbed out of the window, Robert decides to keep going and partakes on a journey you have to see to believe.  In the meanwhile, the entire staff is looking for him and can’t figure where he is because there had been no force entry into his room, and nothing was missing, and he is of sound mind.  They decide to call in the police who are a little reluctant to conduct a large search because Robert has all his faculties and didn’t really relish the idea of being in a nursing home.  After a thorough search of the facility, everyone decided to wait for Roberts’s return which we, the viewer, figured was never going to happen.

The only spoiler I’m going to reveal is from the nursing home, Robert ended up at a bus depot where he purchased a bus ticket to the nearest place his limited money would take him.  And so, the journey begins.  The events of this comedy is like a domino theory, one thing definitely sets off the next event.  We get to live Robert’s extremely colorful life as he tells his story, while adding on more adventure in his current situation.  I didn’t want 100 (YOM) to end.  I was thoroughly entertained despite subtitles.  I liked the idea that Robert told his part in English.  This movie was a total surprise from beginning to end and I highly recommend it.  If you subscribe to Netflix, it can be ordered on DVD.
